BAPRAS in India
BAPRAS maintained a historically close relationship with our Indian Colleagues, going back to Harold Gillies, by being invited to participate as guest society at its 2024 scientific congress in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Under its organising Chairman and current APSI president Dr Hari Venkatramani, the theme of the meeting was appropriately “Engage, Enhance and Collaborate”.
Many BAPRAS Council and ordinary members, led by our President, Mr. Mani Ragbir and Secretary Reena Agarwal, made the journey to Coimbatore in early September 2024 to enjoy the traditional hospitality of the coordinating unit at Ganga Hospital.
This was a very large meeting, held over four and a half days showcasing cutting edge techniques in microsurgery and transplantation as well as the full range of plastic surgery and burns. There was a significant number of international faculty and attendees, including from the US, South east Asia and Africa. BAPRAS faculty gave multiple papers on topics, including congenital hand surgery from Dean Boyce, a variety of flap and microsurgery techniques from Rod Dunn and the Curator on Gillies' influence in the development of Indian plastic surgery. As usual there were plenty of social events, opportunities to soak up the culture of Tamil Nadu and to get to know or catch-up with colleagues from diverse health backgrounds.
