Research has been the key to the rapid development of plastic surgery as a specialty.

From the early 20th century, when pioneers like Sir Harold Gillies advanced reconstructive techniques during World War I, to the modern era of microsurgery and tissue engineering, plastic surgery resesarch has continuously worked towards pushing the boundries of what's possible.
