BAPRAS International

Opened to coincide with the BAPRAS Congress 2024 and to celebrate its theme "International".

British plastic surgery has been an international collaboration from its earliest days. This Gallery highlights the historic international links of BAPS/BAPRAS with partner Associations and Colleagues worldwide.

Three of the initial “Big Four” British plastic surgeons were originally from New Zealand, including Gillies and McIndoe. The Queen’s Hospital Sidcup, the first multidisciplinary plastic surgery unit, established during the First World War, rapidly became an international effort, combining four Dominion armed services teams from Britain, Canada ,New Zealand and Australia in one Location. They were visited by surgeons from many more nations, including the United States. Following the conflict, Sidcup and its combined units had provided significant impetus to the subsequent Worldwide expansion of plastic surgery as a specialty.

International collaboration has persisted ever since, gaining even more significance today. This gallery celebrates our 2024 scientific congress theme “BAPRAS International”. Here we feature some selected stories from past and present, highlighting the influences British plastic surgery has had on colleagues internationally, and how they have influenced us. Click on each world zone to read the stories.
