Home Collections The Salisbury Watercolour The Salisbury Watercolour This deceptively simple pen and watercolour image on paper started life as a felt pen drawing. It was made on the occasion of the first meeting of a Committee put together to assemble a booklet describing the First 40 years of BAPS, and held in a pub in Salisbury on 30th March 1985. As a younger consultant at the time, Brian remembers being somewhat overawed by the other senior members of the Committee. He says he sat in the corner with his sketch book out and that this painting was his only contribution! Made as a rapid sketch, the original pen faded and was re-drawn using India Ink before watercolours were applied. This has given the outline of the scene a perhaps inadvertent but effective two-tone appearance. A copy of the image was made for Mr Antony Wallace, the founder of the BAPS Archive which is now the BAPRAS Collection. The painting is shown, with a photo of the obverse, signed by the Committee members present.
