Home Collections Salisbury Cathedral Salisbury Cathedral This Oil on art board work is a view of Salisbury Cathedral. The ornate guilt frame in which this painting hangs has a small plaque with a date of 1953. The rear of the frame bears a block print of the name “Simons Ltd”, suggesting that this work was at some stage exhibited for sale. It would seem that Salisbury Cathedral is a favourite subject amongst plastic surgeon-artists, also featuring in the works of Brian Morgan. It is possible that this work was painted at the time Gillies was visiting the Plastic Surgery unit at nearby Odstock.
