Image 1 It illustrates the soldier in image 2, injured by shrapnel who has lost the form and shape of his nose. Caption Text The bridge of the nose is reconstructed with a sheet of celluloid, supported at the tip by a strut made from an unknown material. It is inserted via two access flaps of skin, one in the glabella and one on the tip, subsequently sutured closed. Image 3 shows a good early result Image 3 . Image 4 However, the last image (image 4) demonstrates the celluloid construct eroding through the nose tip. The reconstruction thus failed.
