Plastic surgery plays a pivotal role in the management of trauma.

Largely unrecognised, the plastic surgery skillset of wound care together with the reconstruction of function, form and feeling places it at the centre of disaster response and managing the victims of trauma. 

The soft tissue, muscle and nerve injury associated with major blunt trauma, burn, blast and conflict means that it has played a central role in the response to many major disaster. Here we highlight some of those contributions.
