Trauma and Disaster

Blunt, Burn and Blast

Plastic surgery trauma care plays a pivotal but unsung role in the management of mass casualty disasters and terror events.

Largely unrecognised, the plastic surgery skillset of burna nd blast wound care together with the reconstruction of function, form and feeling places it at the centre of disaster response and managing the victims of mass casualty events.

The soft tissue, muscle and nerve injury associated with major trauma, burn, blast and conflict means plastic surgery plays a central role in the response to these types of event. Here we highlight some of those contributions.

If you are professionally involved in plastic surgery, have knowledge of our response to disasters in the UK or abroad, and would like to contribute towards recording that history, then tell us how by emailing:  collection@bapras.org.uk
