Aesthetic Surgery

The first thing most people think of when someone mentions “Plastic Surgery” is Aesthetic Surgery, also known as Cometic Surgery.

 

Aesthetic Surgery is a modern cultural phenomenon. But in reality, whilst an aesthetic or artistic element is integral to many reconstructive procedures,  surgery purely undertaken to correct otherwise “normal” physical appearance is a distinct sub-specialisation of Plastic Surgery.

This gallery examines the sometimes controversial and contested history and development of British Aesthetic and Cosmetic surgery. It's a journey from  the fringes of medicine to the mainstream multi-billion pound industry of today.
